Work Experience

• Project portfolio management of different SW development projects.
• Initiate a project, determine the project scope with the Business steering board, monitor the projects and report the progress to the project steering committee.
• Implementation project of Point Of Sale (POS) systems in all shops of a retail customer
• Customisation of POS systems for several retailers in simultaneously projects
• Industry subsidizing project.
Subsidy of € 4M was requested and granted by the Flemish government for research in a new platform for an IP router. After the first initiating I was asked to become project leader of this € 4M project, i.e. schedule and budget had to be made and agreed by the government officials as well as R&D, changes had to be agreed and deliverables had to be proven in a monthly reporting to the government officials. A team of three was (part-time) assigned to the project to make the required documentation and demos. Two prototypes were made for demonstration purposes, one in the middle of the project and a final one at the end of the project.
• IP router project
The IP router was commercialized after the finish of the research project in a € 200M project. As a member of the Project Management Office I reported to the Technical Project Manager and did the full project coordination including the time and budget planning. For this the 10 project leaders (Hardware, Software and Test, each team with 10 to 30 engineers) reported their daily progress to me. Part of the software development was subcontracted to companies in India and one team was relocated in another Alcatel unit near Washington D.C.
• Data Warehouse project.
Definition and development of a Data Warehouse with a number of interfaces. An MS-ACCESS database was defined and created with interfaces from an IBM mainframe, Unix-platform and MS-Project.
• Reporting system defined and introduced.
Based on MS-Project and MS-ACCESS a multi-user planning and reporting system was defined and created.

• Oracle database project.
A number of MS-ACCESS solutions were merged into one multi-user and multi-site Oracle 8 back-end solution with MS-ACCESS front-end. I set-up a project team (users and team leaders) for the definition and requirements of the database and involved an external consultant for the execution. The project was rolled-out in three different countries in Europe.
• Synergy in production project.
As a team member in this project I worked intensively on the harmonization of the production facilities in the different European countries. Target was to make the parts interchangeable and of the same quality.
• Hardware Coordination team leader.
I was leading the Hardware Coordination team that consisted of members from each development unit. The team was responsible for the development of PCBs and ASICs for switching and assured the interchangeability of the hardware parts.
