Management Consultant (ICT)

Work Experience

General Manager: VA Linux Systems ltd 2000/2001.
================================================
I started UK Business operations for VA from Scratch and built a million pound business in 12 months. Unfortunately, I also closed the company down when VA withdrew from the hardware market and European operations. Here I used technical expertise with Unix and the Internet together with Business skills to open up customer base into (by then diminishing) DotCom community, Enterprise and Scientific/Technical clients.

Business Development Manager: EMC 1999/2000.
============================================
I was the first member of the 'eTeam' at EMC in Europe, building business into the 'eInfostructure' through web developers and system integration companies. My role was to use my understanding of the Internet infrastructure and business and develop value propositions for the storage products of EMC

Systems Architect/Consultant: SGI(UK) 1997/1999.
================================================
My second stint at SGI, I was a founder member of the telecommunications and media team. A vertical marketing group charged with building business into the convergent marketplace of IT, Telecommunications and Media. My role was to act as consultative sales/marketing resource into ISP and Media clients across Europe. Using my technical and Business understanding I was able to help many clients bridge the gap between what the business needed and what the technology could deliver. I was often used as a 'translator' between technical/operational people and business management, who often speak different languages and certainly have different points of entry.

IT Director: ICO Global Communications. 1996/1997
=================================================
At this Start-up telecommunications company, I was responsible for building an IT infrastructure to meet the needs of a rapidly growing organisation. Primary challenge here was an NT infrastructure and support organisation that had grown out of control, with the rapid growth of the company; an IT turn around exercise.

IT Director: SGI (Switzerland): 1992/1996.
==========================================
Working from Swiss Manufacturing Centre, I build large pan-European Information Network and the team to manage it during a period of explosive growth for SGI. Deployed 50+ WAN sites large amounts of equipment, and organisation and processes to manage them.

European Network Manager: LSI Logic: 1987/1992.
===============================================
Working out of UK Semiconductor plant I built IT infrastructure to support, manufacturing, engineering and business operations across Europe which consisted of two manufacturing sites and numerous sales offices / design centres. Also migrated many systems from Mainframe and Mini (VAX) based implementations to Open Systems and PC's

Prior to LSI Logic, I was an electronic engineer / software engineer, working on instrumentation and automation systems for manufacturing
