CAREER DETAILS

October 2005 to date
Freelance Consultant

Initial phase of benchmarking project for Kimberly-Clark Europe completed.

April 2003 to September 2005
Supply Chain Manager – Vodafone, Netherlands

Following a year of project work and interim management, during which I was tasked with re-engineering the company’s supply chain, I was invited to take on the permanent role as VNL’s head of supply chain.

In this role, I was responsible for the purchasing of all handsets, PDAs and accessories, Pre & Post Sales services, together with all outward and reverse logistics operations that supported the company’s sales & marketing plans.

During 2005, I carried out a review of the logistics services platform. This included an RFQ to outsource the central warehouse operation and all associated service contracts for transport, repairs and car kit installations.

September 1996 to March 2003
Freelance Consultant

After leaving Faber Prest, I worked as a freelance management consultant on a wide range of logistics and supply chain projects, including providing advice and support on company acquisitions, business re-structuring and stock rationalisation, together with a number of major ITT projects for out-sourced logistics operations.

Working on my own or within a small team, I developed and implemented supply chain strategies and solutions for clients including Vodafone UK, Spring Ram, Research Machines, Kerry Koods, R A Brand Paper, ITVdigital and Vodafone NL.

In the majority of cases, projects have comprised problem analysis, solution design and implementation, always supported by defined deliverables. In three of the projects I held interim management positions as head of supply chain pending the selection process of my successor.

March 1992 to May 1996
Chief Executive – Distribution Division: Faber Prest Plc.

Recruited by the Group Chief Executive, I was invited to give strategic direction and leadership to a range of logistics businesses and companies involved in contract distribution, warehousing, shipping & stevedoring, bulk haulage and commercial vehicle franchises.

Supported by a small executive team, I successfully focused the Division on the provision of integrated logistical services to the steel industry. In 1994, we completed the purchase of a specialist steel distribution company based in the West Midlands to compliment our stevedoring and haulage operations on the Rivers Trent and Dee and our railhead operations in Manchester.
March 1989 to February 1992
Managing Director: A One Transport

On the invitation of the Chairman I took charge of a large, privately owned transport and distribution company with a history of loss making activities. When I left, the business was back ’in the black’ and was well placed to regain its reputation as a successful transport business providing UK and European logistics services.

April 1987 to February 1989
General Manager – Logistics: BOC Distribution Services

During my time with BOCDS, [now called Gist], I held two roles. Initially, I ran Hemel Hempstead depot, one of a number of dedicated RDCs for Marks & Spencer’s fresh food business.

In September 1989, I became part of a chosen team of managers given the task of developing new business for BOC. My role within the team was to meet prospective clients, arrange consultancy style studies, develop solutions and be responsible for managing in any new operations.

September 1972 to March 1987
Branch/General Manager: British Road Services

Following university, I was recruited by BRSL, [a division of the National Freight Company], as part of their Management Development Programme. After a comprehensive training course lasting 12 months, I held management posts in Newcastle, Darlington, Teesside and Leeds.
