Professional Services Director

Professional Services Director

Work Experience

Mike is currently Interim Director of Professional Services for Alltel Mortgage Systems (AMS), reporting to the COO. AMS is a joint venture between Alltel U.S.A. and Bradford and Bingley. He is responsible for the restructuring of the professional services division to make it fit for purpose, cost effective, and to introduce commercial client facing practices.

For the previous three years Mike occupied a dual role as the Strategic Programme Director for First Banking Systems (FBS) at the Bank of Scotland (BoS), directing six hundred colleagues; and as a senior FBS line manager. FBS is a Software Services Company formed as an outsourcing joint venture between BoS and Xansa Group. He was initially taken on as Interim Programme Director.

The BoS Strategic Programme encompassed the implementation of new Core Banking Systems, the development of a Web based infrastructure to support both Internet and Call Centre systems, the integration of Capital Bank with BoS, the re-organisation of BoS into three business divisions supported by a Shared Services division, the formation of FBS (an outsourcing joint-venture), the outsourcing of computer operations to IBM and preparation for the integration of BoS with Halifax to form HBoS. As well as being technically complex and large the programme involved unusual degrees of organisational, cultural and business process change.

As a senior line manager within FBS, reporting to the COO, he sat on the FBS Management Operations Board and had P&L responsibility for the BoS Strategic Programme that was a virtual division with FBS. He grew the P&L to the extent that the Strategic Programme accounted for sixty-five percent of FBS revenue. The purpose of the outsourcing joint venture was to radically restructure the I.T. management capability and significantly improve the BoS IT capability. Mike took a leading role in developing new processes and capability.

Immediately prior to this he was Programme Director of a large-scale network rollout and infrastructure project at Coopers & Lybrand in preparation for their then forthcoming merger to become PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Leading up to that project he had had a very successful career at Logica as Projects Director for Logica Finance, delivering and rescuing major and complex programmes, and has continued this connection as an associate. He also sat on the Logica Finance Operations Board. As such he managed and reviewed the major bids and projects.

In summary, Mike has a very strong Software Services background and a rare level of experience of large-scale Programme Management that has involved complex organisational change and business process re-engineering (BPR). His main areas of expertise would therefore be:
· Programme Management and Interim Management
· Outsourcing Management and Consultancy
· Software Service Company Line Management and Bid Management
· Business Process (BPR) and Cultural Change.
