Patrick worked with several leading FMCG manufacturers to measure effectiveness of promotions, and based on the outcome of this research assess, and where necessary, redesign promotional strategy and tactics.


April 2001– July 2001 Leading Consumer Electronics Manufacturer –Global eBusiness Awareness Programme
Role: strategy consultant
The client needed a global eBusiness Awareness programme for senior management, tailored specifically to the company’s situation and competitive environment. Patrick was responsible for the needs-assessment, initial eBusiness opportunity assessment, and alignment with current strategy. Patrick also developed the commercial and supply chain modules for the programme.

Dec 2000 – March 2001 Leading FMCG Manufacturer – Visioning / Multi-Channel Strategy
Role: strategy consultant
Developed a vision of what the company’s business environment will be like within 3 to 5 years, to determine what needs to in place (business configuration, capabilities, supply chain configuration, asset utilisation, systems, etc.) for the company to remain competitive. The second phase of the project focused on the subject of multi-channel management. A high level strategy for entry in alternative channels was developed as well as a first cut business case (for Western Europe)

Sept 2000 – Dec 2000 Leading Tobacco Manufacturer – eBusiness strategy
Role: eBusiness strategy consultant
Development of the company’s global eBusiness strategy (marketing and sales, internal processes, and supply chain). A set of seven initiatives has been defined, focusing both growth and efficiencies. Patrick’s primary focus was on external analysis, strategy alignment and business case development.

Custom development of leadership training for senior management. Focus areas for the training were strategic market oriented management and programme leadership.

To gain tighter control over the channel, and grow both sales and profit considerably, the client wanted to set up a chain of retail stores. The retail processes were defined, and synergies and gaps with current business were identified.

Role: Retail expert
As part of their European expansion strategy the company was considering the acquisition of a Dutch manufacturer of software for the retail industry. An assessment was made of the manufacturer’s current and future position in the retail market and of the strategic fit with the client’s service portfolio and strategic intent.

Leading FMCG Manufacturer – eBusiness strategy
Role: eBusiness strategy consultant, project leader
Development of the company’s eCommerce and channel strategy for the out of home markets. Main target was to obtain large, sustainable growth in these (up until that moment) underdeveloped markets, and obtain stronger overall control over distribution channels. Final deliverable was a portfolio of six highly innovative growth initiatives, as well as first cut implementation plans.

Role: ECR and retail expert
Performed an ECR maturity benchmark, in order to gain insight in the company’s current capabilities to actively start ECR pilots, and identify the most promising opportunities. As final deliverable a clear portfolio of improvement initiatives was developed.

May 1999 – August 1999 Software Manufacturer – Application assessment
Role: Retail expert
Overall functionality assessment and quality scan of a recently developed merchandise management system. Main focus areas of the assessment were competitiveness of the product and the extent to which the application supported category management.

Oct 1998 – Feb 1999 Food Retailer – Professionalise project management capabilities
Role: Project leader
Developed a programme to professionalise the organisation’s programme office and project management capabilities. Implementation of a customised project management tool.

Feb 1998 – July 1998 Leading Logistic Service Provider - Competitive strategy / Business plan development
Role: Manager programme office / strategy consultant
Developed the strategy to eliminate the large, structural losses the company faced in the segment of business to consumer parcel distribution. The solution was found in building an entirely new company for their B to C parcel distribution. Final deliverables were a business plan (including the new business operating model, logistic network design, marketing strategy, and organisational structure), a business case, an implementation plan and a study of the financial and social implications for the company as a whole.

Nov 1997 – Jan 1998 Wholesaler for Construction Materials – BPR / SAP roll out
Role: consultant business alignment
Roll out phase of a SAP enabled business process redesign. Main focus was on keeping the roll out phase aligned with business objectives and managing the organisational change.
