Work Experience

2004 - present: MDO of management company;
Operates at the intersection of corporate governing and technology, delivering board level strategic advice and interim management to international corporations and to the public sector. Recent commissions include:
• Programme Manager; leading a 31 million euro programme aimed at the creation of publicly/privately owned companies in the security sector. Set up financial and business structure, developed product specification sheets, initiated implemantation projects.
• Project Manager; in commission of the City of Amsterdam and Albert Heijn modelling and developing a publicly/privately owned company that delivers security services. The services include guided surveillance by means of biometric face recognition.
• Creating the business plan, managing the financing and securing the IPR of a start-up company founded by a brilliant technician. The company supplies biometric security solutions to very large scale international identification programmes.
• Developing the value proposition of a new encryption technique for the research lab of an international technology company.

2001-2004 Corporate Development Director at Joh. Enschedé;
Responsibilities include corporate strategy, M&A and technology policy. General Manager of business unit Biometric Security. As of 2002 seconded as CEO of Dartagnan Biometric Solutions, the joint-venture established with Schiphol International.
• Established the strategic plan for Joh. Enschedé and its subsidiaries for the period 2002-2006.
• Conducted a number of due dilligences in the Security Print arena with the purpose to investigate an acquisition or a merger.
• Restructured the IT department and introduced the ITIL management process.
• Took over the biometric activities from the incubator Joh. Enschedé Security Solutions (JESS) and created the business unit Biometric Security (JEBS). Defined and executed its business model and business plan as General Manager.
• Established the business plan for the joint-venture of JEBS with Schiphol International. Drafted the co-operation agreements and the shareholders agreement and conducted the negotiations on behalf of Joh. Enschedé that eventually led to the creation of the joint-venture. Acted as the first CEO of the new company named Dartagnan Biometric Solutions with the assignment to realise the formal establishment and organisation of the company, assure its funding, lead it through the legal process of the Dutch Non-competition Authority (NMa), create business opportunities, further mature its product and generate revenues.


1996-2001 Senior Consultant at Getronics Consulting;
• Advisor of the Dutch minister of Transport & Infrastructure. The purpose of the assignment was to create the political back-up for the minister in case of emergencies in the vital traffic and water control infrastructure due to the millennium bug. This has been achieved by assuring the accessibility and the correctness of all relevant legal, administrative, technical and departmental documents. Conducted the information gathering with the Secretary General and the Directors General. Led the implementation of the documentation system.
• Project Controller of large automation project at a Dutch bank; The assignment included the auditing and restructuring of the project’s budget and organisation.
• Interim Manager of R&D organisation of the Dutch ministry for Public Homing & Environment; The purpose of this newly created organisation was to audit and align the business processes and IT support systems of the five Directorates of this Department. Set up and implemented the organisation. Created the support of the Directors General for the organisation and its objectives.
• Manager of a Dutch air defence consortium; The purpose of the consortium was to design, build and deliver a new Command & Control Centre to the Air Defence of the Royal Dutch Army. Designed the architecture for the C&C centre. Invited the consortium members from the air, IT and defence industry. Drafted the consortium agreement. Lead the response of the consortium to the RFI.
• Interim manager of Dutch electronics and software development contractor. This contractor designed and built embedded control systems that are applied in complex industrial machines. Led the merger of an electronic systems design house and a company specialised in optical system development. Set up the organisation of the department of a larger mechatronics development contractor as a result of the merger. Introduced development and engineering methods and standards.


1988-1996 Project Manager at Océ Research & Development;
Responsibilities included the technical development of several large (up to 80 people) copier and printer products.
• Conducted an analysis of the world-wide stream of defect electronic components. Implemented an improvement in the Service organisation.
• Led the design team of the control system of an analog office copier.
• Led the project team of a mid-volume office printer.
• Led the design team of an electronic image-processing system.
• Led the project team of a high-volume digital wide-format reproduction system.
• Introduced Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) technology and design methods and tools.
• Responsible for the definition of R&D business processes and integration with production and service processes, implemented as front-end to SAP R3.


1986-1988 Assistent Professor at the Dutch University of Technology, faculty of Electrical Engineering;
Conducted a research programme in the field of integrated circuit design resulting in the dissertation titled “Automated Hierarchical Testable Design of Digital Circuits”. The dissertation describes a knowledge-based method for automatically analysing and synthesising the testability of a digital integrated circuit. The method has been implemented in the expert system Tristan and Isolde (Tri-Stage Testability ANalysis and Intelligent Synthesis Of Logic DEsigns). The method and the expert system has been applied in conjunction with the silicon compiler SilcSyn to the design of the Philips CD-I chip-set;

Free-lance consultant for ASIC design houses;
Provided advise and support to several ASIC design houses in The Netherlands and in Germany.

1986 M.Sc. Electrical Engineering;
Graduated at the Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering on the thesis “A New Mobility Model for Sub-Micron MOS devices”. The work included the creation of a new model for the behaviour of charged particles at the surface of doped silicon under strong electrical fields, the design of Process Control Modules and the extraction of parameters from these PMC’s for the model. Applied the results during a nine months period at Mobira Oy, the silicon factory of Nokia, in Uolu, Finland.
