PREVIOUS WORKING EXPERIENCE

2010 – 2011
GROENEWOUT CONSULTANTS & ENGINEERS – SENIOR CONSULTANT

2011 - Zebra Technologies ZNA / Chicago, USA
After Heerenveen (2010 Project), Zebra will be going live with its Oracle WMS system in Vernon Hills, Chicago as well. Groenewout was asked to assess warehousing activities and to make recommendations on improvements to go along with the WMS implementation. Hurdles: Utilization of a building that was never meant to be a warehouse, with occupation rates of more than 100% and without any Slot planning whatsoever. Recommendations concern: Slot planning, house-keeping, introduction of discrete and clustered order picking, new lay-out of the processing zone and removal of surplus stock.

2011 - Logwin / Germany (Universität Regensburg)
Originated in Germany, Logwin is a worldwide freight forwarder. Together with Professor Andreas Otto they run periodical brainstorms to determine and align their courses of action. This time a workshop was held with 40 controllers from all worldwide locations. Objective was to identify ideas for corporate improvements that can be triggered and or supported by the financial department. It took quite some facilitation to generate “out of the box” discussions and ideas. Conclusion of the day: controllers do more than fact keeping and it is necessary to maintain good relations with Business Departments and to exchange views and opportunities.

2010 - Zebra Technologies EMEA / Heerenveen, the Netherlands
Zebra Technologies is a manufacturer of printers and id- devices. The EMEA warehouse is located in Heerenveen and has been implementing a new WMS. Groenewout was asked to make recommendations on improvements prior to this implementation. The assessment concerned building dimensions, capacities and bottlenecks, Inbound, Outbound volumes, storage and order pick profiles. The main recommendations concerned improvement of building and equipment, Slot Planning, Order Processing and future house-keeping.

2010 - SK Pharma / Kazakhstan
SK Pharma is a state-owned procurer of pharmaceutical products that will be insourcing distribution activities during 2011. Currently warehousing and transportation is outsourced to the three main Pharma-distributors in Kazakhstan. SK Pharma needed a Distribution Business Plan for the first 10 years. Groenewout assessed current distribution operations and identified major trends and developments in order to concept a number of scenarios. With the help of the CAST distribution modeling software, selected scenarios have been evaluated after which conceptual design of required warehousing facilities was completed.

2010 – Development “Cooperative Game play”
Groenewout has conducted many network design studies to optimize distribution systems for its customers. Some of these studies focused on harvesting synergies with merging distribution activities from multiple divisions or companies. Until now, it was recommended to split mutual benefits by the Parties based on their cost proportions. This didn’t always satisfy the parties, after which they were left to negotiate it further. By integrating “Cooperative Game play” heuristics into its modeling, Groenewout now offers additional methods to allocate mutual savings to the participants.

2001 – 2010
VC FACTORY BV – MANAGING PARTNER, Selected project references:

2009 – Rigterink GmbH & Co. KG / Deutschland (cayla)
Tender support for a Logistics Service Provider. A worldwide manufacturer of Food Products (a.o. Tomato Ketchup) invited Rigterink to submit a bid on a number of scenarios for Distribution of finished products to retailers and food processors in Germany. Greenfield modeling was used to reveal the theoretically optimal distribution structure and this was used as a guide to design a practical distribution solution dressed up with a number of existing synergies. Additionally, Rigterink was able to offer its client opportunities for cooperation with several large food manufacturers, thus introducing new synergies.

2009 – Haribo GmbH & Co. KG / Deutschland
At the age of 86, Hans Riegel (Bonn) still leads world’s biggest manufacturer of gummi and jelly sweets. Haribo delivers to thousands of outlets in Germany and was interested to learn the potential gains from collaboration with other manufacturers. A quick Scan and Feasibility Study have been carried out. First results proved very positive.

2009 – Ferrero GmbH / Deutschland
Ferrero is one of the largest producers of Chocolates and Sugar Confectionary in the world. Out of its seven warehouses, it delivers to more than 6.000 addresses in Germany. Ferrero is convinced that it can only reach additional costs and service improvements by collaboration and has sought out one of its largest competitors to start with. The idea is that candy bars do not compete in warehouses and trucks, but competition starts in the store. After carrying out a feasibility study, Ferrero and Mars implemented a collaboration project in Minden. Both manufacturers share this distribution centre and jointly deliver to their largely overlapping customer base in the Rhein/Ruhr area. Ferrero is very satisfied with the first results.

2008 – MARS GmbH, Ferrero GmbH / Deutschland
Master planning Distribution Logistics for MARS Deutschland and definition of a range of projects to improve Logistics hand-in-hand with main customers and with other manufacturers in the Supply chain. The Project did have a wide coverage in Germany during three Workshops with main Retailers and peers like Ferrero and Haribo. Currently, Mars and Ferrero are supported with the implementation of a consolidated manufacturing center in Minden.

Realistic transport costs have been obtained during a tender with global and local providers. Potential savings and risks have been identified and winning Scenarios have been revealed.

Preparation of a Business Case for global transportation of pharmaceuticals. During this study the following topics have been covered: benchmarking of tariffs, transport network and routing, transport mode decisions, service level adjustments. The business case resulted in a strong conclusion, saving 15% on global transportation costs.

2006 – Massive Nederland B.V. / the Netherlands
