2001 – 2005 WELTRADE HOLDING LIMITED
General Manager (Mongolia)
Setting up a company with 2000 employees producing garments for the USA market. A 100% owned company by the Qingdao Import & Export cooperation in Qingdao city, Shandong Province.
Weltrade factory in Ulan Bator, Outer Mongolia, manufacturing of cut and sew knits for the US market, clients consisted of Wal-Mart, Sears, and JCPenny.
The company was a project which I had taken to establish a better cooperation with China, the project was from feasibility study to turn key, after which the owners asked me to stay on a General Manager, taking care of all operations in Mongolia.
Introduce GSD to the head office as well as in the operations in Mongolia.
Establishing an extensive network of contractors within Mongolia.
Working closely with government as well as non-government organizations by establishing a training program for management and English language courses for the garment/textile industry
In 2004, the head office decided to transfer all equipment back into China, due in part that China would become a full member of the WTO, and all quotas in China will be eliminated over a period, it would not be feasible for Weltrade to operate in Mongolia.

Temujin Mench factory in Ulan Bator, Outer Mongolia, manufacturers of general clothing, e.g. Shell suits, Shirts, Casual jackets and Pants for Modmaid, Fashionrite, Shalon, Lou Levi and Levi Strauss Eximco. Worked as General Manager with special responsibility for setting up of a company, with a labor force from 3500. Directly controlled 4 assistant managers, 12 Mongolian production managers, 12 assistant production managers, 1 QC manager with 2 assistants, 1 security manager, 1 maintenance manager, 1 personnel manager, 1 doctor, plus 23 technicians and 28 interpreters. Apart from the expansion program also responsible for day-to-day maintenance of output, efficiency and quality whilst training expatriate and Mongolian production managers to improve quality, efficiency and delivery.
Design a project feasibility study for a factory that would be the first foreign invested company in a former USSR country.
Logistics problem solving, transporting containers from PRC to Outer Mongolia with very limited infrastructure, and shipping via Vladivostok in Russia.

Work Undertaken: -
Industrial Engineering training responsible for 15 IE staff plus 25 mechanics plus 5 Material Utilization staff. Set up training for engineers, supervisors, production assistant managers in various levels of IE and specified an induction program for trainee operatives. Company manufactures ‘T’ shirts and tops mainly from knitted cotton type fabric, making for the US and UK and expanding from 1 million pieces produced per month to 1.5 million pieces. Carried out a number initiatives to save cost in both cutting and sewing setting up controls for machine repairs, sewing needle control and cutting machinery utilization, re-designed management reporting system, advised on health and safety and sat on Management Executive committee.

Charles Komar and Sons Inc., New York at Komar Textile Trading Ltd., Tiszalok, Bercenyi Kos 2, 4450 Hungary, the largest suppliers of nightwear in the US, supplying J.C.Penney, Costco, Marmaxx, Jockey for her and Kaymart and latterly supplied knitted cotton Baby wear for Woolworth, Morrison’s, BHS , Marks and Spencer and Mothercare in the UK.
Introduced Industrial engineering, by selecting, recruiting and training local staff, developed and applied management control systems.
The 2 shift cutting facility introducing better and safer working methods whilst saving fabric and reducing cut seconds. Compiled company quality manual which is now the basis of their QC manual for their worldwide operations. Installed garment label, swing ticket and self adhesive label printing equipment. Introduced dynamic balancing into production lines, improving output and achieving better delivery times. Supervised the re-alignment of sewing minutes with accurate standards using GSD. Arranged and supervised the inventory and transportation of baby wear machinery from UK to Hungary and Romania. Selected and trained Managers, Technicians and Mechanics for a new Romanian and Bulgarian sub-contractor production facilities organizing and overseeing the factory start-ups, ultimately opening 2 customer approved nightwear/baby wear production units. Visited and evaluated several factories in Bulgaria and Serbia with a view to offering sub-contract work.
