Role is on a contract basis as a business strategy analyst providing expertise in preparing presentations and designing and writing databases.

1992 - 1999 Finance Manager for the Global Expense Management(GEM) Department and the Real Estate and related services areas in London and Europe.

Finance manager for GEM in London and Europe

Responsible for 25 staff(qualified, part qualified and clerical).
Work included:
*Monthly forecasting and daily monitoring of expenses.
*Operation of accounts payable ledger and fixed asset register.
*Providing data to Head Office, Controllers and procuremnent areas.
*Re-engineering of accounting operations processes including the introduction of
workflow techniques and document image processing(DIP).
*Maintaining in-house databases.
*Working with business lines to assist them in controlling/reducing their expense base(s).
*Advising on financial aspect of any new deals/transactions proposed by the procurement area.
*Approve all monthly expense accruals/deferrals across the London books.



Key Achievements:

Set up, staffed and installed a "help-desk" function for the accounts payable area, alleviating the workload of processing staff.
Designed and implemented various databases enabling streamlining of operations, improved management information and cost savings.
Implementation of new accounts payable and fixed asset software
Implementation of new general ledger (Dodge).
Designing and implementing "Access database" reports for monthly expense management meetings with business lines.
Designed and implemented software to enable daily monitoring of expense base.
Installed hardware and software that enabled 80% of suppliers (by number and value) to be paid electronically. This improved the turnaround time, removed paper from the process and enhanced security.
Implemented a staff exchange programme between operations in London and Nashville.
Structured Accounting Operations area to enable dual focus on day-to-day operations and systems/ process re-engineering.
Part of "integration" team that handled acquisition of Cash equities business - dealing with valuations/accounting(goodwill) and process presentations to new business management.

Finance Manager for Real Estate and related services in London and Europe

Responsible for 5 staff(qualified and part qualified).
Work included:
. *Preparing monthly budgets and variance analyses for the cost centre managers.
*Preparing presentations for the General Manager in London.
*Visiting European sites to review budgets/variances
*Designing and implementing access based management accounting software.
*Providing financial oversight for capital expenditure.
*Forecast and manage cash-flow for property company.
*Manage finance in relation to tenants eg billings, service charge schedules

Key Achievements:

Implemented "VAT efficient" contracts for temporary staff, saving the Bank in excess of £1,000,000p.a.
In conjunction with the purchasing area, set up a separate company for insourcing property services such as cleaning, security and engineering. This achieved savings for the Bank in excess of £500,000 p.a.
Created new company for major property purchase in the UK. Set up lease/leaseback accounting and funding structure that enabled the most efficient tax treatment.
Computerised general ledgers for subsidiary companies.
Set up long term funding for UK property.

1986 - 1991 Corporate Controller for the London Branch of Bankers Trust

Responsible for all financial and regulatory reporting to Head Office, the Bank of England and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Ensuring reporting was in accordance with US GAAP and RAAP where appropriate.
Finance Officer for IMRO purposes for the Bankers Trust asset mangement vehicle.
Responsible for the work of 8 staff.
Regularly dealing with auditors, both internal,external and regulatory.
Accounting responsibility for subsidiary companies, including property and leasing companies.
Advising business lines on accounting policy for transactions.
Assisting Treasury department in understanding reserve requirements.
Controller for the Bankers Trust pension fund(s), preparing and distributing accounts to trustees and finalising sign off with the Auditors.




Key Achievements:

Set up department from "scratch" hired six new staff, eventually moving these people into other areas of the Bank.
Dealt with the rapidly changing requirements from the US and UK regulatory bodies.
Computerised general ledgers for subsidiary companies.
Installed software that automated the production of forms for Bank of England reporting purposes.
Bankers Trust Controller representative for the "tri-partite" meetings with the Bank of England.

1984 - 1985 Heading up various areas in the Controllers Department

These included:
*Financial accounting - Income Statement
(Monthly income Statement prepared for Head Office within tight deadlines)
*Financial accounting - Balance Sheet
(Daily/Monthly Balance Sheet prepared for Head Office)
*Management accounting (for the whole Bank)
*Regulatory reporting (Bank of England and Federal Reserve Bank of New York)

1984 - 1985 Head of Accounting Operations

My brief on joining Bankers Trust was to:
*Automate/streamline the Accounts Payable area within 2 years
"Manage the operation with a view to a smooth handover at the end of the project.
*Supply the Tax department with monthly capital allowance computations.

Key Achievements:

Project completed in 18 months.
One of the first PC's to be installed in the Bank
First example of transferring data from PC to mainframe in the Bank.
Duplication of data entry eliminated.

JHRM are a medium sized city firm of Chartered Accountants dealing with audit, accountancy and tax(corporate and personal) work for clients ranging from sole traders, public companies and large charities. I qualified in 1980 and stayed for one year post qualification.
