Work history
Shiftleader deck mechanic: October 2002–January 2005, January 2006–now.
On board of the DP PLV “Solitaire”. It is my responsibility to lead a team of mechanics, fitters and motormen to execute all the planned maintenance on pipe lay related equipment. Trouble shooting, field repairs and in house modifications done on this equipment is also a main part of my job. Together with the barge foreman and the welder foreman I am responsible for the pipelayproduction on our shift.

Team leader upgrade crew: January 2002–October 2002, January 2005–December 2005
On board the DP PLV Solitaire; leader of the crew on board responsable for executing the main part of the upgrade to accommodate ultra deepwater pipe lay equipment. During the dry docking my job was to prepare and supervise the equipment installation on board. After installation I witnessed the company acceptance tests and the initial start up of all equipment at the first project in the Gulf of Mexico.

In 2002 Allseas transformed the Derrick Barge Tog Mor into a single joint pipe lay barge.
During the docking period I was team leader of the start up crew, the Allseas representative for subcontractors and reported directly to the Project Team. My main targets were to field determine, set up, and install all the pipe lay equipment, during the first projects I was a shiftleader deckmechanics and trainer of the new crew on board.

July 1999-January 2002 Allseas Marine Contractors; deck mechanic
Working as an deck mechanic/third engineer on the Allseas owned DP PLV Solitaire. As a deck mechanic it was my duty to give guidance to fitters and motormen. Together with colleague mechanics we were responsible for troubleshooting, repairing and executing planned maintenance on all cranes, hydraulics and pipe lay equipment.




When I joined the Solitaire, the vessel had just finished off her maiden project in the North Sea and quite a lot of equipment on board was in need of repair or had to be modified in-house.
At that time our main tasks were to get everything back in operation again and to eliminate the problems which caused serious downtime while laying pipe. The sequence of pipe laying on one side and repairing/improving on the other side led to a mayor reduction in mechanical downtime.
All the effort which was put in by the crew resulted in a pipelayvessel which is currently setting the standard in pipe lay.



1994 - 1999, Heerema Marine Contractors; engineer
At Heerema I was employed as an engineer on Semi Submersible Crane Vessels, tugboats and equipment barges.
Engineer on SSCV’s; my main task was to supervise a team of approximately 10 fitters/ motormen. The maintenance and repairs carried out took place in the engine room, on deck equipment, big rig cranes and hydraulic equipment. During projects the other main task was to operate and maintain project equipment such as pile driving equipment.
Engineer on tugboats; my main task was to maintain the ships equipment and maintain electrical equipment on board. During anchor operations it was my duty to operate the anchor winches.
Engineer on equipment barges; it was my duty to prepare the barge equipment for load outs and to operate the ballast system.
