Achievements include:
- Development of a devolved business planning process for a major business banking organisation

- Formulate an integrated HR strategy together with revised recruitment process, for a major share registration company focusing on culture change.

- Implementation of performance management frameworks in two major UK telecoms companies

- Undertake a change management study, including the development of a strategy to educate the employees of a major UK clearing bank to enable the implementation of a new business banking infrastructure and systems.


BT CELLNET 1996 - 2000
Leading cellular telecommunications operator. £3bn Turnover, 8000 employees.

HR Development Manager
Formulate management development policy, strategy and tactics, including ownership of Cellnet’s Management Training Programmes. Manage Cellnet’s performance management processes, including policy development. Provide HRD consultancy and project management for matters relating to management development and performance management.

Achievements included:
- Member of the steering group to introduce web-based performance management processes across British Telecom, and implementation of the processes and systems within BT Cellnet.

- Specification, development and launch of Cellnet’s Management Development Programme, including a major outsourcing operation through formalised ITT.

- Project managed re-accreditation of the organisation as an Investor in People for two successive years.

- Major contribution to Cellnet’s change initiative, “Forward”. Design, management, and some delivery of a major programme of management workshops involving 500 participants which has had significant impact.

- Created many programmes that have brought about business improvements and organisational change through developing high performance teams.

Business HR Manager
Provide a full generalist personnel service to two divisions with a total of 500 staff on five sites during a period of rapid change and growth.

Achievements included:
- Formulation and implementation of a recruitment strategy, including a graduate development programme, at a time of growth and high staff turn

- Development of a revised process for annual pay round management, and completed during company re-organisation

- Management consultancy as a member of the senior management team. Development of the companies’ first training plan aimed at linking business objectives with individual training needs.

Personnel Policy Development Manager 1992 - 1995
Undertake strategic projects to develop the AA’s HR policies. Implement the people management practices, the processes and the systems that support the HR policies across the entire organisation.

Achievements included:
- Designed and implemented a competency-based performance review framework for all staff in the Commercial Services business.

- Completed a successful TRP review of directors’ and senior managers’ remuneration.

- Introduced a new pay and grading structure for the Commercial Services business that enables cost controls to be achieved in subsequent years and rationalised all grades.

- Led the project to design and implementation of training and development systems and processes using the PRINCE project management framework.

- Created "people management standards" for adoption throughout the organisation. These led to the adoption of processes that match the mission of the organisation with management values and practices linked to the AA brand.

Training & Development Manager 1989 - 1992
Manager of the Head Office Training Centre. Provision of quality training and development programmes to meet business objectives and individual need whilst offering good value for money. Management of training suite, six staff, external training providers and consultants, budget of £250k.

Achievements included:
- Designed and implemented a competency-based modular management development programme for middle and junior managers.

- Established a new financial regime and reduced costs, increased quality and training volume, and utilised better resource planning to achieve break-even.

- Managed changes that enabled the department to deliver products and services that compete with the best external training providers. Made headcount changes which supported the provision of a consultancy service funded by reductions in administration.

- Introduced a new Further Education policy to provide sponsorship funds for all employees who wished to undertake a course as part of an agreed development plan.

Senior Business Analyst 1986 - 1989
Review organisational effectiveness of financial systems, develop new business procedures and practices. Implementation of solutions involved gaining management support, training, and documentation.

Operational Auditor 1985 - 1986
Examine business procedures and operational system effectiveness for the computer audit department. Write audit reports for management review.
